The transfer portal pursuits of Michigan basketball have been fast and furious since the hire of new head coach Dusty May. There haven’t been any commitments yet, but it feels like just a matter of time.

The top targets on the board right now for Michigan basketball are Johnell Davis, Vlad Goldin, Danny Wolf, and Connor Essegian. May has been in contact with Essegian and Wolf. He was the head coach of Davis and Goldin and Michigan feels like the favorite for the former FAU standouts.

Nothing is guaranteed though, especially when NIL is involved. However, one thing you have to like about May is that he’s casting a wide net. There’s no shortage of options and another came to light on Friday.

Another target for Michigan basketball in the transfer portal

Javian McCollum was the leading scorer last season for Oklahoma, but he’s entered the transfer portal and Michigan is one of the teams in contact with him according to The Portal Report.

McCollum averaged 13.3 points per game and 3.4 assists last season for the Sooners. He shared the point guard duties and would be a great fit for Michigan basketball. May wants to have multiple shooters, creators, and ball-handlers on the floor at one time. Having a guy who shared that role, but played off the ball would be helpful. He’s also made more than 1.5 3-pointers per game in each of the past two seasons, although he shot 31 percent from deep in 2023-24.

Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Georgia, VCU, Vanderbilt, Florida, West Virginia, and USC, a Big Ten rival, have reached out. Michigan has too. Georgia Tech has an early prediction to land McCollum, which could be a sign of where things are headed. But May has been excellent on the recruiting trail so far. He’s gotten Michigan back in it with a couple of recruits and maybe he could do it with McCollum too.
