AJ Hoggard was one of the top performers at the CP3 Elite Guard Camp this weekend and he even locked down an NBA star.

Michigan State basketball star point guard AJ Hoggard recently went up against some of the best players in the country. The CP3 Eite Guard camp, run by NBA star Chris Paul, brings some of the best talents in the country together to compete against one another. Hoggard took advantage of this opportunity and impressed many that were there.

Jonathan Givony, an NBA Draft Analyst for ESPN, was especially impressed with AJ’s performance. In a tweet from Givony, he said about Hoggard, “Showed his unique pace and feel creating for himself and others, is making progress with his body, shooting and defense and looked like he belonged competing against NBA players. Breakout season coming.”

That is an amazing thing to hear from someone who knows what it takes to excel at the professional level.

The video above shows some of AJ’s best plays from the camp. He is seen beating defenders one-on-one, finishing highly contested layups at the rim, and pulling up and nailing jump shots. AJ also demonstrated his elite passing and defensive ability, even stealing the ball from current NBA player DeMar DeRozan.

What does this mean for next season?

Expectations are already sky-high for Michigan State next season. This performance from AJ only validates how special next year could be. AJ will be a leader and one of our best players next season. However, seeing him shine this much against the best in the country only increases my confidence in him as a player next year.

Michigan State has not won the Big Ten regular season title since 2020. This team will likely be the favorites to win the conference and I believe it is extremely important to get back on top of the conference again this season. The Final Four and a national title are also realistic for this team. I will never say that it is likely for any team to make a Final Four because it is an extremely difficult thing for any team to do. But there is no denying that we have as good of a chance as anyone next season to accomplish that

Will AJ be the player we need him to be next season? He showed it at times last season and is showing it again this offseason. The biggest thing for him this year is consistency. Our team is good enough that AJ doesn’t need to be the lead scorer every night. However, if we want to accomplish all of our goals, we can’t have the occasional night where he is nonexistent. I think AJ won’t have any issues with that and we will see career numbers across the board from him this season.
