Alabama's Nate Oats Dealt More Transfer Portal News After NCAA Tournament
USA TODAY Sports

One year removed from the program's first trip to the Final Four, Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide couldn't get it done in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, falling to Duke in the Elite Eight.

Now, Oats will be moving forward without his All-American guard Marks Sears, who finishes his college career after three seasons in Tuscaloosa. He has also lost numerous players to the transfer portal, including Mouhamed Dioubate and Jarin Stevenson.

But on Saturday, Oats lost yet another player, as freshman forward Derrion Reid has entered the transfer portal, per On3's Pete Nakos.

"Derrion Reid is in the transfer portal with a do not contact tag, @On3sports has learned," Nakos wrote on X.

Reid, the 6-foot-8, 220-pounder from Grovetown, Georgia, was a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class (247 Sports). He ranked as the 10-best overall prospect in his class and the best from Georgia.

Reid had found a role with the Crimson Tide in the early part of his freshman season, getting the nod as the starter on three occasions. However, as the NCAA Tournament began, Reid saw a big hit in playtime, averaging 9.0 minutes per game in four postseason games.

In 24 games played this season, Reid averaged 6.0 points on 45% shooting, 2.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.

Fortunately for Oats and Alabama, they have a few transfers joining the 2025-26 team, including Miami's Jalil Bethea and Florida State's Taylor Bol Bowen. He also has three four-star prospects from the 2025 recruiting class ( 247 Sports).
