The No. 5 Florida Gators prevailed in a pivotal 99-94 road victory over No. 8 Alabama on Wednesday night at Coleman Coliseum. The win could give Florida a double-bye in the March tournament if they get ranked No. 2 . The highlight player of the night came from the Gators sophomore forward. Alex Condon delivered a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead his team to the victory.
Condon, who returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a sprained ankle, was dominant on both ends of the floor. He shot 9-of-16 from the field, including key three-pointers in the first half, and added an assist and two blocks in 30 minutes of action.
After the game, Gators head coach Todd Golden had high praise for the team's top scorer.
“Condo obviously had his best game as a Gator tonight, ”Todd Golden said. “He did a remarkable job finishing around the rim, hitting big threes, and setting the tone with his physicality and effort. Twenty-seven and 10, remarkable game for him.”
Although Condon had an extraordinary night, he still credits his teammates for the win. A standout player only in his second year of college basketball is already showing the leadership qualities of a veteran.
“Credit to our guys, I think they did a good job of getting me in the right spots tonight,” Condon said. “It was a team effort.”

Florida point guard Walter Clayton Jr. complimented Condon’s performance with 22 points and eight assists, while Rueben Chinyelu added nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds. The Gators led 41-40 at halftime and never trailed in the second half, pulling away with effort on the boards and in transition.
The victory marked Florida’s second road win against a top-10 team this season, a program first. It also strengthened the Gators’ resume as they aim for a No. 1 seed for March Madness.
Alabama was led by senior guard Mark Sears, who scored 30 points, but the Crimson Tide couldn’t overcome Florida’s relentless rebounding and transition game.
With the regular season finale against Ole Miss on Saturday, the Gators are peaking at the right time.
