Kentucky center Amari Williams will have a chance to make a strong impression next week in Chicago with NBA Scouts.
Williams, who is 7-foot, has been invited to the 2025 NBA G League Elite Camp, which takes place May 9–11 at Wintrust Arena, home of the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and DePaul Blue Demons, according to Draft Express director of scouting Jon Chepkevic.
While Williams did not receive an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, landing a spot at the G League Elite Camp still offers a valuable opportunity. Each year, a select group of standout performers from the Elite Camp earn call-ups to the Combine — an extended evaluation event held May 11–18 at the same venue, bringing together scouts, executives, and coaches from all 30 NBA teams.
Williams, a native of Nottingham, England, is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2024-25 draft pool. He averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game for the Wildcats last season, doing so in just under 23 minutes per contest. His efficient 56.1% shooting and eye-popping 7-foot-6 wingspan have earned him a spot on ESPN’s Top 100 list with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony listing him as the No. 63 overall prospect.
Known for his passing vision, interior defense, and physical presence, Williams brings a modern skillset that could translate well to today’s NBA. His unique background — from England to Drexel to Kentucky — also adds to his intrigue among scouts and could be one of the better passing big men in the NBA if given a chance.
A strong showing at the Elite Camp could propel Williams into the Combine and boost his draft stock heading into the two-day NBA Draft on June 25–26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Notably, the rest of Kentucky’s graduating class — Jaxson Robinson, Andrew Carr, Lamont Butler, and Ansley Almonor — have yet to receive G League or Combine invitations. Incoming transfer guard Jaland Lowe, who declared for the draft while maintaining college eligibility, also remains without an invite.
Fellow Wildcats Otega Oweh and Koby Brea were included in the 75-player list invited to the NBA Draft Combine. Oweh, a junior, must decide by May 28 whether to remain in the draft or return to Lexington.
For Williams, the Elite Camp is a crucial stage — and possibly the first step toward making his NBA dream a reality.
