Andy Katz may have disrespected AJ Hoggard but he loves himself some Tyson Walker, ranking him No. 1 nationally.

Right when we want to give up on all Andy Katz preseason rankings lists after disrespecting AJ Hoggard, he pulls us right back in with some hefty praise for Tyson Walker.

On Monday, Katz released his list of the top 10 point guards for the upcoming season and Hoggard was nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, there were three other Big Ten point guards on the list. That stirred up some controversy and Carson Cooper even came to the rescue.

On Tuesday, Katz (almost) made up for his mistakes. He posted his top 10 shooting guards for 2023-24 and a Spartan star tops the list.

Tough to disagree with this list. There are some guys who I believe could be a little higher like Terrence Shannon Jr. and Max Abmas, but it’s tough to argue against Walker being the best shooting guard in college basketball.

Heck, Walker willed Michigan State to multiple wins last season and became the go-to scorer that the Spartans needed from the middle of Big Ten play until the end of the year. And when he decided to return for one more season, there’s a reason the expectations skyrocketed. Michigan State went from a second-weekend team to a legitimate Final Four and national title threat.

What makes Walker so different from the rest of the guys on this list is the fact that he can do everything. He can defend at a high level, he can take defenders off the dribble to the hoop, and he can square up and knock down jumpers from mid-range and deep. Walker is a complete shooting guard and the only knock on him is his size.

Don’t agree with this list? Walker will face three other guys on there this season with an opportunity to prove any doubters wrong.
