As John Calipari often says, “Don’t trip over nickels trying to get to a max NBA contract.”

What does that mean? Don’t sweat the small things, put your focus on basketball and work hard. Anthony Davis is a player that did exactly that.

Shooting the fifth most shots on the 2011-12 National Championship team, Davis put together one of the most successful seasons in college basketball history. Not only did he help lead Kentucky to a title, he was named SEC Player of the Year, National Defensive Player of the Year, and National Player of the Year.

Eleven years after being selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Davis is estimated to have earned nearly a quarter of a billion dollars ($226,008,314) from just salary, excluding endorsements. Over the next five years, that number will grow to nearly half a billion dollars ($496,467,689) thanks to a new contract extension.

On Friday, it was announced that Davis signed a three-year, $186 million dollar max contract extension, the richest in NBA History, with the Los Angeles Lakers through 2028. That will pay Davis $62 million annually, and for reference that breaks down to:

  • $1.19 Million Per Week
  • $169,863 Per Day
  • $7,078 Per Hour
  • $118 Per Second

Congratulations AD (the bill is on you)!
