It was a season to remember for Auburn’s Johni Broome. As a key part of Bruce Pearl’s talented Tigers squad that reached the NCAA Tournament Final Four, Broome capped off his college career with a long list of accolades.

He was named the Sporting News College Basketball Player of the Year, earned SEC Player of the Year honors and was a consensus first-team All-American.

After five years of college basketball, Broome is moving on to the next chapter. With his eligibility exhausted, he has entered the NBA draft, sparking debate about whether he’ll land in the first round. No matter where he ends up, his legacy at Auburn is firmly cemented.

On Wednesday, Auburn’s basketball program shared a strong message on social media to honor his time with the team:

"An Auburn Legend. 4️⃣ever."

Broome transferred to Auburn after two standout seasons for the Morehead State Eagles. Prior to that, he played his final year of high school basketball at Tampa Catholic, where he was named Hillsborough County Player of the Year. He chose Morehead State over offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville and Bryant.

During his time at Auburn, Broome improved his scoring each season. In his final year, he averaged 18.6 points and and SEC-leading 10.8 rebounds per game.

In the NCAA Tournament, he was a force on both ends. He scored in double figures in four of Auburn’s five games. The only exception came in the second round against the Creighton Bluejays, where he finished with eight points.

He recorded double-digit rebounds in each of the first four tournament games, including a tournament-high 16 boards against the Michigan Wolverines.

In the Sweet 16 against Michigan, Broome dropped 22 points, then followed it up with a 25-point performance against the Michigan State Spartans in the Elite Eight. His final game as a Tiger came in the national semifinal against the Florida Gators in San Antonio, where he tallied 15 points and seven rebounds in a 79-73 loss.

The NBA draft begins at 8 p.m. ET June 25 with first-round selections on ABC and ESPN. The second round is set for 8 p.m. ET June 26 on ESPN.

Broome’s presence, production and leadership will be hard to replace, but his time at Auburn won’t be forgotten. He leaves as one of the most decorated and beloved players in recent program history, a true Auburn legend.
