Baylor G LJ Cryer commits to Houston
Michael Ciaglo-USA TODAY Sports

Former Baylor Bears guard LJ Cryer is staying in the Big 12.

According to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Cryer is committing to the Houston Cougars. He is from the Houston area. He attended Morton Ranch High School in Katy, TX, and the Houston Chronicle named him the All-Greater Houston Player of the Year in 2020.

“At the end of [the] day, it’s home,” Cryer told Duarte. “It doesn’t get any better than playing for your hometown.”

Cryer is coming off a strong season for the Bears. He averaged 15.0 points, 2.1 assists, and 0.5 steals, while shooting a conference-high 41.5 percent from three. He was selected as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week twice and scored 20+ points in seven individual games last season.

Cryer is joining a strong Houston team. The Cougars spent time as the #1 team in the AP Poll last season. In addition, they have been an AP Top 25 team in each of the past six seasons, and they have made three consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances.
