Baylor-Seton Hall game canceled due to COVID-19

Sunday's men's basketball game between the No. 2-ranked Baylor Bears and Seton Hall Pirates is off the schedule.

The programs mutually announced the contest slated to occur at the Prudential Center in New Jersey has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"While we were excited about this Big 12-Big East Battle matchup, we agreed that canceling this year's game was the best decision for both programs," the schools said in a joint statement shared by Seton Hall.

Baylor added that it is exploring additional options for the season.

As Jeff Borzello wrote for ESPN, this is the third game that Baylor has scrapped since coach Scott Drew tested positive for the coronavirus this past Sunday.

The Bears were set to face the No. 18-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils on Wednesday and, potentially, the No. 3-ranked Villanova Wildcats as part of the Empire Classic before Drew's positive test resulted in Baylor withdrawing from that competition.

Baylor will now hope to begin the campaign against the Illinois Fighting Illini, currently No. 8 in the country, on Dec. 2 as part of the Jimmy V Classic. Earlier in the day, the Tennessee Volunteers pulled out of that competition due to positive COVID-19 tests and subsequent quarantines.

Seton Hall faces the Louisville Cardinals in the Wade Houston Tipoff Classic on Friday. According to Borzello, the Pirates may try to schedule another opponent during that multi-team event before playing at the Rhode Island Rams on Dec. 2.
