PITTSBURGH — In the opening round of the TBT tournament, No. 3 Best Virginia cruised by No. 6 Brotherly Love 94-69 on Saturday afternoon.

Best Virginia had a collective effort on scoring vs. Brotherly Love as all 10 players that checked in for Best Virginia scored. Wesley Harris (15), Marcus Keene (12), Esa Ahmad (12) and Taz Sherman (11) led the way for Best Virginia scoring in double figures.

Keene, a former Youngstown State and Central Michigan guard, made his debut for Best Virginia on Saturday. Keene has played for Sideline Cancer in previous TBT tournaments. Keene finished with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Best Virginia cooled off in the second quarter after scoring 35 points in the first frame. WVU’s alumni team was outscored in the second quarter but led by 15 going into halftime.

Former Mountaineer guard Teyvon Myers made a jump shot to give Best Virginia a 28-point lead in the second quarter. Brotherly Love chipped away slowly at Best Virginia’s lead but another third quarter run was capitalized by a Sagaba Konate dunk.

With four minutes to go, the game went into the Elam Ending. This is the rule that TBT uses to end games and avoid late fouling. The leading team’s points plus eight is the target score to end the game. The target score was set to 93 points. Jonathan Holton’s layup ended the contest.

Best Virginia will now wait for the winner between No. 2 Zoo Crew (Pitt) and No. 7 Million $ Worth of Game, who play on Saturday night. Best Virginia and their future opponent will play on Monday night at the Petersen Events Center at 8 p.m. on TBT Live.

The TBT Championship will take place in Philadelphia with the final four teams, which takes place on Aug. 2 and 4.

This will be the first time since 2020 that Best Virginia won’t host their own regional, playing in Charleston and Wheeling the last three summers. Pitt’s alumni team, The Zoo Crew, do the honors of hosting their regional this week at the Petersen Events Center from July 20-24.

The Basketball Tournament is a 64-team field, which the winning team takes home $1 million.
