Half of the teams in the Big 12 have seen their seasons come to a close in Kansas City this week, and on Friday, we have the first notable transfer portal entry from the conference.

Utah power forward Jake Wahlin announced on Friday that he intends to enter the transfer portal.

It’s worth noting that despite his intentions to find another program in 2025-26, he’s still in touch with the team and plans to play in any postseason invitational that the Utes might end up in.

“I want to express my gratitude to the University of Utah and Ute Nation for welcoming me with open arms. Being a Ute has been an incredible experience, and I’m truly thankful for the relationships I’ve built with Coach Smith, the assistant coaches, and the staff; Your trust and support allowed me to grow as I continually work to reach my potential. Thanks to my teammates, I appreciate you all. I’m excited to continue my conversations with coach Jensen and to learn more about his vision for the program. while remaining committed to play in the post season with the team, I have respectfully decided to enter the transfer portal to explore all options and find the best path forward for my future.

Thank you Utah for everything.”

Wahlin, listed at 6-foot-10, started 22 games for the Utes this season and averaged 6.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

He’s the first player to enter the transfer portal since Utah parted ways with Craig Smith following a 16-16 season in 2024-25.
