Maybe the best thing you can say about Dusty May is that if he fails as Michigan basketball head coach, it won’t be for a lack of trying.
Ever since taking the job, May has been relentless. He’s been contacting transfers, high school recruits, current Michigan basketball players, assistant coaches, and beyond trying to get the Wolverines back on track.
It’s been impressive. The hire of former Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton is massive. That’s a home run in my opinion — due to his recruiting prowess and defensive coaching abilities. The man was responsible for four top-50 defenses in the Big 12. He also signed Cade Cunningham.
However, there was new reporting on the coaching staff. Michigan basketball insider Davis Moseley reported that Akeem Miskdeen will join the Wolverines staff. Miskdeen was on the staff at Georgia but coached under May previously at FAU.
Seems like another coach is expected to join Dusty May’s staff in UGA Assistant Coach Akeem Miskdeen. Spent time with May at FAU, but it appears he will rejoin him this year.
Massive pickup for May. One of the best talent identifiers in the country.
Primary recruiter for Rooths

Beyond that, Miskdeen was the primary recruiter for Johnell Davis, the reigning American Player of the Year from FAU, who just entered the transfer portal. Miskdeen was also Georgia’s primary recruiter for five-star Khani Rooths, a Michigan basketball commitment until recently.
Rooths is a 6-foot-7 forward ranked 31st overall in the 2024 class. Rooths is a talented shooter and ball-handler. He would be a perfect fit for May’s system as he can be a secondary playmaker as well as a talented 3-point shooter who can play the 3/4.
Beyond that, Rooths would be another talented addition to the 2024 class. He would also give the Wolverines an uber-talented player to develop for the future, along with Durral Brooks, who is the only 2024 signee for Michigan basketball.
May has eight open scholarships. Not all of them should be transfers, at least if it can be avoided. For his part, May was in Indiana on Wednesday, according to reports, taking in a practice of IMG to watch Rooths. That kind of effort will get you noticed.
New Michigan head coach Dusty May was in Brownsburg, Indiana today to watch former Michigan commit Khani Rooths and IMG Academy practice, per source.
2025 5⭐️ Darius Acuff, who is a Michigan native, also took part in IMG’s practice.

You have to respect the work May is putting in. On Tuesday, he visited Danny Wolf and on the last day before a recruiting dead period, he’s visiting Rooths.
In light of recent developments, I have updated Khani Rooth’s section with a prediction.https://t.co/8lrY4zmo9f

For the record, Moseley, who has created a board for recruits and transfers, has predicted that Rooths and Wolf will wind up with Michigan basketball. He also said he feels good about where things stand with Johnell Davis and Vlad Goldin, even though both declared for the NBA draft too.
Yea btw, this one looking really good https://t.co/0kBbFpOAzH

It feels like the good news is bountiful for Michigan baskeball. But May and the Wolverines still need to close, although that’s starting to feel like just a matter of time.
