Breaking down Texas' huge commitment from elite five-star SG

Tre Johnson is the real deal, so fans of Texas basketball have to be feeling great right about now.

A 6-foot-6, 190-pound senior guard out of Dallas, Texas (Link Academy), Johnson has decided to stay in-state and play college hoops for the Longhorns. Texas head coach Rodney Terry was among those who broke the news.

So what are the Longhorns getting in Johnson?

First, the rankings think he's going to be special. A five-star, he's the consensus No. 1 shooting guard in the country and the No. 4 recruit overall.

He's a supreme athlete, long and lanky. He can finish at the rim but also has a nice touch from beyond the arch. At least against high school players, he looks a bit like Kevin Durant with his length, athleticism and scoring ability.

According to Johnson, it was the coaching staff at Texas that won him over.

"I like the culture and my relationship with the coaching staff," Johnson told 247Sports. "They have guys who will be returning that will be good players around me. They see me as one of their guys who can come in and be effective on offense. They want me to be a one-and-done player who will always have a program to come back to."

Johnson committed to Texas over Baylor. As he mentioned, he'll likely be a one-and-done player and on his way to the NBA sooner rather than later.
