The Bulls have hired Quincy Pondexter as head coach of their NBA G League club, the Windy City Bulls, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network tweets.

Pondexter, 38, hasn’t coached in the NBA but played for five teams, including the Bulls, from 2010-19. He’s been coaching in the college ranks as an assistant with his alma mater, the University of Washington. He was an assistant with the Huskies from 2021-24, then spent one season at USC before returning to Washington last season.

Toward the end of his playing career, Pondexter set a goal of becoming an NBA head coach. He’ll move one big step toward that goal by coaching Chicago’s G League affiliate. The Windy City Bulls have finished with a losing record the past three seasons.

The G League team has been coached by Billy Donovan III, son of former Bulls coach Billy Donovan, the past two seasons. Billy Donovan parted ways with the organization after last season and will be the lead assistant for the Spurs during the upcoming season.
