In a dramatic recruiting twist, Snow Canyon superstar Olivia Hamlin has flipped her commitment from Nebraska to BYU, giving the Cougars a marquee addition to their 2025 class. The 5-foot-9 guard, widely regarded as one of the top scorers in Utah prep history, chose to stay close to home — and Cougar Nation should be thrilled.
Hamlin isn’t just a good pickup — she’s historic. The two-time Deseret News 4A Player of the Year averaged 28.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 steals, and 3.7 assists as a senior, finishing her Snow Canyon career with over 2,500 points — the second-highest total ever recorded by a Utah girls’ player. With her quick first step, defensive tenacity, and ability to score from anywhere, Hamlin is a Day 1 difference-maker in Provo.
This isn’t just about landing talent. This is a statement by Lee Cummard. The new BYU head coach has hit the ground running, flipping a Power Five commit in his first months on the job. Hamlin originally chose Nebraska over Clemson, Virginia Tech, UNLV, and BYU last fall. Her decision to reverse course and join the Cougars speaks volumes about the direction of the program under Cummard’s leadership.
Hamlin joins a 2025 recruiting class that’s quickly turning heads. Alongside her are Montana’s Braeden Gunlock (17.6 PPG, 9.8 RPG) and ESPN Top 100 prospect Sydney Benally — both of whom remained committed through BYU’s coaching change. Add in early enrollee Mariam Traore, a 6-foot-3 forward from Mali, and it’s clear: BYU women’s basketball is on the rise.
“Although this is not the path that I had previously envisioned, I know this is the path that the Lord has placed before me,” Hamlin shared on social media. That path now runs through Provo.

For BYU fans, this commitment isn’t just about talent — it’s about momentum. With Cummard at the helm and Hamlin leading the charge, Cougar basketball is building something special. Don’t blink — the next era just arrived.
