On Saturday afternoon, Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will be the center of the basketball world when Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever host Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky for their first game of the 2025 WNBA season.

The Midwestern city has taken kindly to Clark, the Iowa Hawkeyes legend who was taken by the Fever with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

She averaged 19.2 points and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game in her first professional season, earning an All-Star selection and Rookie of the Year honors.

All the while, her boyfriend Connor McCaffery was creating his own basketball story down the road at Butler University.

"May this be the year you finally find a way to outshoot me," Clark wrote on her boyfriend's birthday in July 2024.

The former Hawkeye, who was coached by his father Fran McCaffery at Iowa, just finished his first season as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs' men's basketball program under head coach Thad Matta.

Before that, he got valuable NBA experience in Indianapolis as the Basketball Development Coordinator for the Indiana Pacers during the 2023-24 season.

Clark and McCaffery met at Iowa, where they started dating in 2023. When they celebrated their two-year anniversary last month, McCaffery posted a photo of his long-term girlfriend with the caption, "keep being u."

"2 years of third wheeling with a lifetime to go," commented his younger brother, Patrick McCaffery

Patrick followed Connor to Butler as a graduate transfer after a five-year career at Iowa. Their youngest brother, Jack McCaffery, will be a freshman with the Bulldogs this fall.

The family connection is one reason for Clark's boyfriend to stick around and build his life in Indianapolis. The Fever star, whose contract with Indiana runs through the 2027 season, gives him more reasons every day.

"You have an incredible ability to inspire and lift up those around you," McCaffery said in a birthday post for Clark in January. "I am lucky to learn from you every day."
