Cincinnati’s Dan Skillings Sets Portal Visit to In-Conference Foe

A polarizing player in the eyes of select Big 12 fans, Cincinnati forward Dan Skillings Jr. has announced his plans to visit an in-conference foe.

Skillings plans to head to Waco, Texas, on Tuesday, April 15th, for a meeting with Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears, first noted by SicEm365’s Grayson Grundhoefer.

Last season with the Bearcats, Skillings had a noticeable drop off from his sophomore season. In 2023-24, Skillings was a legitimate NBA prospect, averaging 12.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game before a brutal change in his junior season.

A few months after Skillings declared that he would be entering the NBA Draft after his junior season at UC, things went off the rails quickly. The New Jersey native saw dips in points (9.2), rebounds (3.8), assists (1.5), free throw percentage (61.2), and minutes played (22.8).

Coming out of Roman Catholic High School in the Class of 2022, Skillings was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 105th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 12th-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Skillings has planned visits to Baylor, LSU, and USC.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
