CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament canceled due to COVID-19

For the second consecutive year, no team will win the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).

Per an official statement shared by Jeff Borzello of ESPN, it's been announced that the CIT won't take place this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement reads:

"Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) in 2021. The safety and welfare of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans is paramount. Therefore we believe it is prudent to not hold our event this season. This was an easy decision.

"The NCAA has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and we look forward to 'taking a pause' and watching what is the best annual sporting event in the World."

It's long been expected that postseason competitions not necessary to crown a national champion would be called off because of the health crisis. While conference basketball tournaments remain on the calendar, legendary UConn Huskies women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma said earlier this month that "it wouldn't bother me one iota" if the NCAA canceled at least the Big East tournament, per Mechelle Voepel of ESPN.

According to Borzello, the CIT is one of four men's basketball postseason tournaments made up exclusively of mid-major teams. Like other competitions, the CIT was also canceled last spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.
