Connecticut Huskies: Dan Hurley Reacts To Team Finally Ending Brutal 10-Year Drought In Win Vs Marquette Golden Eagles
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

For many Connecticut Huskies basketball fans, Dan Hurley is a savior. Hurley has been doing a fantastic job calling the shots for the Big East program which is also the reigning national champion.

The good times just keep on rolling for the Connecticut Huskies, as they have netted another huge win on Wednesday, taking down the No. 8 Marquette Golden Eagles on the road. What makes that win even more important –and sweeter – for the Huskies is the fact that it was the first time since 2014 that Connecticut scored a true road game victory versus a ranked opponent.

Hurley, however, did not sound too excited over the end of that particular drought. He did reflect on the journey the Connecticut Huskies had gone through over the previous years before finally coming out on top of the college basketball world again in 2023, and still being a national powerhouse to this day.

“We sucked for years, right?” Hurley said after the game (h/t ESPN). “We went through some cold winters. And then back when I took over this job, there was no portal, so you had to rebuild something slowly.”

Dan Hurley Has Established A Winning Culture For The Connecticut Huskies

Before Hurley was hired in 2018 by Connecticut to coach the Huskies, the team had missed the Big Dance two years in a row. The absence in March Madness of the Huskies continued until the third year of Hurley with the program, though, they got eliminated in the first round of the national tournament in 2021. And again in 2022. In 2023, Hurley finally delivered the Connecticut Huskies the ultimate goal in college basketball, as he guided the program to its fifth national title.

Based on the Huskies’ form heading into conference championship week and just around two weeks before the NCAA tournament, they seem to be a good bet to go on another deep run in the Big Dance.
