Cooper Flagg’s special day earns an honor

For all of Cooper Flagg‘s accomplishments from his high school days at Nokomis High School (Maine) to now heading into tonight’s NBA Draft as the odds on favorite to be the No. 1 pick, he will now have a day dedicated to him.

Maine’s 75th governor Janet Mills, announced June 25, 2025 as ‘Cooper Flagg Day’ for the state to honor all of the achievements of tonight’s potential No. 1 pick of the 2025 NBA Draft. The Dallas Mavericks have the No. 1 pick and by all reports, plan on selecting the Maine native as their choice to kick things off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“Cooper Flagg’s extraordinary talent and dedication to basketball has earned him national acclaim as perhaps the most promising player of his generation. He is a source of tremendous pride for Maine,” Mills said. “I have proclaimed today as Cooper Flagg Day, so all the people of Maine can celebrate his achievement, hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship, which should inspire youth across our state to pursue their dreams with Cooper’s signature determination.”

Flagg instantly made a name for himself at the college level, helping Duke reach the Final Four this season. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game, getting 30.6 minutes of action while starting all 37 of his team’s games.
