In his third season as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils, Jon Scheyer has now led Duke to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances, eyeing a second straight Elite Eight as well.
On Sunday, Cooper Flagg led No. 1 seed Duke to a dominant 89-66 second-round win over V.J. Edgecombe and No. 9 seed Baylor Bears.
Flagg, in his second NCAA Tournament game, finished with 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting, nine rebounds and six assists.
Scheyer was a star player for Duke from 2006-2010. He even helped lead the team to a national championship win in 2010.
Along the way, Scheyer earned the nickname "White Mike," according to former NBA star Patrick Beverley.
"Jon Scheyer never ducked any smoke from any athlete in Chicago," Beverley said on his podcast. "They call him the White Mike, he was so cold. (Expletive) in the projects was walking to his games."
However, Flagg does not seem to be too impressed with Scheyer's "White Mike" nickname. After the win over Baylor, Flagg was asked about his coach's nickname, sharing his thoughts.
"I mean, I don't know if I would call that a nickname," Flagg said. "I don't think anyone's actually ever called him that. It was made up. Unless I see some proof of somebody calling him that, that's not his nickname."
