Coming into this year's men's NCAA Tournament, a lot of people were picking Duke to win the national championship. It will have the opportunity to take the next-to-last step toward that accomplishment when it takes on the University of Houston in the Final Four on Saturday.
If the Blue Devils win that game, they will then play Florida, another team that has been one of the favorites to win it all, in the championship game, which will take place on Monday.
Florida defeated Auburn, 79-73, on Saturday, which means Kelly Flagg, the mom of Duke star Cooper Flagg, is one step closer to having to make good on the promise she made if Duke wins the national title.
She said that if it happens, she will get a tattoo to commemorate the accomplishment.
"What I said (after the regional) was, if we win the whole thing — I shouldn’t say if, I don’t like that word — when we win the whole thing, then we will get a tattoo to commemorate,” the elder Flagg stated, per Lindsay Schnell of The Athletic. “I’ll get a tattoo anywhere. He can pick the spot — except my face — if they do what they need to do.”
The younger Flagg has been fantastic for much of the tournament so far, despite an ankle injury he suffered just prior to it. In the Elite 8 round versus Arizona, he got hot for 30 points on 9-of-19 shooting and made nine of his 10 free throw attempts while adding seven assists, six rebounds and three blocks.
The 6-foot-9 forward is so versatile in every facet of the game that some have compared him to Scottie Pippen, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer who won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls.
The younger Flagg is widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in this June's NBA draft.
