Cooper Flagg's NBA Salary Revealed After Making Draft History

On Wednesday, college basketball superstar Cooper Flagg was officially selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks ended up winning the lottery last month despite having a 1.8% chance of doing so. While many fans joked that general manager Nico Harrison would pull the wild card move of the century and trade the pick, given that he had traded All-NBA guard Luka Doncic, the Mavericks were set on flagging throughout the entire process.

It wasn't a surprising selection by any means, as Flagg was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the country with a perfect rating—despite his reclassification from the 2025 class to the 2024 class. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old also strengthened his resume by winning numerous player of the year awards at Duke.

Following the Mavericks' selection, Flagg became the first player in NBA history to be taken No. 1 overall from the state of Maine. In addition to making some NBA history, he is now also in line for a nice payday.

As confirmed by Spotrac, Flagg is expected to sign a four-year deal worth over $62 million, which translates to approximately $15.6 million per season.

While in the past years, players from college ranks weren't used to making nearly as much money, Flagg may be the exception.

In May, it was reported that Flagg accumulated $28 million in NIL earnings during his lone season with the Blue Devils, thanks to monster deals with brands such as New Balance and Fanatics.

However, assuming he lives up to his superstar potential, Flagg will be due for a huge extension down the road.

He joins a Dallas team that is now in a position to contend with key pieces such as 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, former All-NBA Rookie selection Derek Lively II and four-time NBA Champion Klay Thompson.

If Flagg can be the two-way star that he is expected to be, the Mavericks may have stumbled into a dynasty.
