Court Sets Trial Date for Terrence Shannon Jr

Illinois Basketball Star Faces Preliminary Hearing

Illinois Basketball star, Terrence Shannon Jr, appeared in a court in Kansas for his preliminary hearing today on May 10th. Last week, WCIA News and IlliniGuys both reported that Shannon Jr’s lawyers claimed that there was no DNA evidence from their client.

Today, Amanda Brennan of WCIA News reported on the events at the preliminary hearing. Per Brennan and sources on Twitter, the hearing’s judge found a cause to send the case to a jury trial. On top of that news, Shannon Jr. and his legal team filed a not-guilty plea. In the end, the case will move towards a trial that would take place on June 10th. Though this is the trial date for now, this date may not be concrete and could still be subject to rearrangement.

A Statement from the Legal Team

Terrence Shannon Jr’s legal team responded shortly after the news became public. Per Mark Sutter, who is a lawyer on Shannon Jr’s legal team, ” “Our legal team is neither shocked nor disappointed by the outcome of this event.  A preliminary hearing is a procedural process that merely speaks to the threshold of evidence and whether a question of fact may exist for a jury.  It has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Those issues will be decided at trial, and we continue to look forward to our day in court.”
