The USC basketball team took down Oregon State last weekend, and the defense for the Trojans was exceptional. USC ended up winning the game 82-54, and everything started with the defense. Good defense led to good offense for the Trojans, and Oregon State was never able to hang in the game because of it. We have seen USC play great defense before, but this was one of the first times that they played good defense consistently for an entire game. That was the difference.

If USC basketball wants to improve throughout the remainder of the season, they are going to need to play great defense consistently. You what they say, defense wins championship. If the Trojans play good defense down the stretch this season, the year could be a lot more fun for this team.

“Tonight, I thought we showed a lot of toughness defensively,” USC head coach Andy Enfield said after the Oregon State game, according to an article from USC Annenberg Media. “First of all, to make them miss and then, secondly, to try and rebound the ball. I thought we were flying around on defense, meaning we were rotating and had energy.”

As we are nearing the middle of February, the season that feels like it just started is beginning to wind down. We’ll see if the Trojans can find some momentum in the final weeks of the year.
