Desmond Claude is one of the best guards left in the transfer portal. Coming off a strong season at USC (15.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game), he’s now narrowed his options to Ole Miss and Duke, with Virginia making a late push. Florida, previously a contender, is officially out.
Ole Miss has emerged as the clear frontrunner for Claude. With leading scorer Matthew Murrell departing, coach Chris Beard urgently needs a proven guard who can step in immediately. Claude fits perfectly with Beard’s fast-paced, guard-oriented offense, offering immediate minutes and a central role as the primary ball-handler.
The Rebels have also reportedly prepared a significant NIL package—expected to be in the high six figures—which boosts their chances considerably.
Duke significantly increased its recruitment efforts over the past week, reaching out directly to Claude after his visit to Florida. With guard Tyrese Proctor testing the NBA draft waters, Duke needs backcourt help. Claude would likely become a key piece for Duke, providing scoring and facilitating as a lead guard.
Duke’s prestige and track record of NBA development is something that will also appeal to Claude. Having a bigger national platform would likely boost his NIL earning potential and NBA stock.
Virginia continues to chase Claude aggressively, driven by significant backcourt turnover. Claude would become the Cavaliers’ clear No. 1 scoring option. However, there may be some catching up to do with the Blue Devils and Ole Miss in the NIL department.
After initially being among the top contenders, Florida’s interest cooled considerably following Claude’s recent visit. Sources confirm the Gators have now fully dropped out, narrowing Claude’s choice further.
Ole Miss is firmly in the driver’s seat, offering a clear, immediate role combined with a strong NIL package. Duke remains a strong alternative, and alongside UVA are making a late push. Claude is expected to announce his final decision soon, with Ole Miss currently favored.
