Doug Gottlieb Explains Belief in Jordan McCabe, Keeping Him at Green Bay

Even though his return to WVU was short-lived, Jordan McCabe still has an opportunity to continue his coaching career. McCabe will now work under a new head coach, but one who truly believes in him.

While McCabe was fortunate to be hired by Green Bay on April 29, he was soon almost out of luck when Sundance Wicks abruptly left to take over at Wyoming. However, when UWGB brought in former college basketball point guard and media personality Doug Gottlieb to lead their program, the talk show host turned coach decided to keep McCabe on his staff.

It’s common for a new head coach to clean house, but Gottlieb explained his reasoning for retaining McCabe to WV Sports Now.

“I’m so excited to work with Jordan this season. I’ve followed him from his J5 high school days and loved that he got a chance to get right in last season with the Eers. He has great energy, knowledge and swag to relate with players and AAU coaches alike,” said Gottlieb. “Jordan will be a star and hopefully this is the beginning of his journey to being a head coach,” he added.

As evidenced by his initial statement, McCabe sounds very excited for this next challenge in his coaching career.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be coming home!” McCabe said at the time of his hiring. “My fiancé Olivia and I want to thank Coach Wicks, Josh Moon, and the entire UWGB family for welcoming us. They have all worked hard at returning the Phoenix basketball program to its rightful place and continue to push it forward. I promise to work every single day and do my best to meet the standard that has been set in Green Bay! Let’s RISE!”
