Duke will be losing one of its star players and Cooper Flagg could soon follow him into the NBA draft, but one analyst believes the team could be making a big transfer portal move to replenish the roster.
Freshman Kon Knueppel announced on April 16 that he would be entering the NBA draft. Knueppel is ranked as the No. 8 prospect in ESPN's draft projections and averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game last season while hitting 40.6% from behind the 3-point arc.
Flagg has not yet announced his plans for the upcoming season, but the No. 1-ranked prospect is widely expected to enter the NBA draft as well.
Cameron Salerno of CBS Sports noted that Duke will have some big holes to fill on the roster, but expects them to start making moves in the transfer portal soon.
"Duke has yet to make an addition via the transfer portal, but that is expected to change shortly," Salerno wrote.
While Salerno did not reveal any specific transfer portal targets for Duke, The Athletic's Adam Zagoria reported that the team showed interest in Princeton transfer guard Xaivian Lee.
The Blue Devils will have some tough competition for Lee. The other teams expected to show interest include Florida, St. John's, UNC, BYU, and Stanford, Zagoria reported.
Duke will have a big hole to fill if Flagg follows Knueppel into the NBA draft. The winner of the John R. Wooden Award averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while leading Duke to a 35-4 record and a trip to the Final Four.
