After a Final Four run last season — the first of his young coaching career — Jon Scheyer and Duke are reloading.
While most of the attention this spring has been on the departures from Durham, there’s some quiet optimism brewing about who might be arriving.
Washington State transfer Cedric Coward is now trending toward Duke.
According to a report from The Field of 68, Coward is visiting Duke today and is leaning toward picking the Blue Devils over Alabama.
Coward is also going through the NBA Draft evaluation process but is widely expected to return to college basketball for the 2024–25 season.
Before an unfortunate rotator cuff injury ended his year early at Washington State, the 6-foot-6 wing put up monster numbers.
In just six games, Coward averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game, showcasing an impressive all-around game on both ends of the floor.

Coward is also testing the NBA draft process.
Fully recovered and holding one year of eligibility, Coward would immediately fill a major need for Duke.
His size, athleticism, and ability to create plays fit perfectly into what Scheyer wants to build heading into another loaded ACC schedule.
Adding Coward would give Duke a proven scorer and defender — and more importantly, a player ready to contribute at a high level from day one.
The decision isn’t official yet, but signs are pointing to a big win for the Blue Devils in the transfer portal.
Stay tuned — things are heating up in Durham.
