Duquesne Lands George Washington Transfer G Maximus Edwards

Edwards committed to Kansas State out of Our Saviour Lutheran School in Stratfield, Ct. in the class of 2021, but he spent only one season in Manhattan, Kan. before entering the portal for the first time.

A season-ending injury forced him to miss his freshman season at K-State, but he quickly emerged after transferring to George Washington.

He earned A-10 Rookie of the Year honors as a redshirt freshman in 2022, averaging 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists on 43/35/70 shooting splits. He was even better last season, putting up 12.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on 43/36/87 splits.

In 63 games at George Washington, Edwards made 50 starts — including 23 of 31 games last season.

Edwards played Duquesne once last season, putting 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting (2-of-4 from 3), five boards, three assists and two blocks.

Edwards gives Joyce and the Dukes coaching staff a jumbo guard who should be able to play on the wing. His size and rebounding ability offer intriguing lineup flexibility next season.

Duquesne, coming off of an NCAA Tournament victory and an A-10 Championship, will have a new-look rotation next season. Joyce and his staff have built a strong roster behind four transfer additions so far: Williams (Furman), Crawford (Marshall), Corbett (Chicago State), and Dinkins (Canisius). The Dukes will look to returners David Dixon, Kareem Rozier, Jake DiMichele, Jakub Necas, and others to continue to build upon the momentum built last season.
