Dybantsa on BYU’s Mindset: ‘We’re Going to Be Good’

AJ Dybantsa didn’t hold back in announcing expectations for the BYU Cougars’ 2025‑26 basketball season.

“We are going to be good,” Dybantsa declared. “We are going to try and give the fans a show, but we are going to play the right way because we want to win first, but we are going to try and give them everything they want.”

That blend of entertainment and excellence captures the mentality Dybantsa brings to Provo. As the highest‑rated recruit in BYU basketball history and a projected top pick in the 2026 NBA draft, his arrival under coach Kevin Young has sparked national attention.

Dybantsa’s promise to balance showmanship with fundamentals aligns perfectly with Young’s NBA pedigree, including three years as an assistant with the Suns and Sixers, which emphasizes disciplined and polished play.

BYU enters the new season off a high note, reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 2024‑25 and finishing tied for third in the Big 12 at 14‑6. With Dybantsa on board, expectations have shifted. Cougar fans can now dream not only of flashy plays but also sustained success in a deep, competitive conference.

Dybantsa’s commitment isn’t just hype; it’s a declaration. He’s bought into BYU’s vision: win first, dazzle second. If he delivers on both promises, BYU could be poised for a breakthrough year both on the court and in the national spotlight.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how Dybantsa and the Cougars balance swagger with structure. Fans will get their show, but if Dybantsa’s words hold true, along with the wins.
