ESPN expects Tennessee Vols guard Chaz Lanier to be selected early on night 2 of the 2025 NBA Draft

Former Tennessee Vols guard Chaz Lanier didn't hear his name called on night one of the 2025 NBA Draft.

ESPN, however, doesn't think Lanier will have to wait long on night two of the draft to find out where he'll begin his pro career. They have the Detroit Pistons selecting Lanier with the No. 37 overall pick (the seventh pick on night two of the draft).

From ESPN: A true late-bloomer who averaged 3.7 points per game over his first three collegiate seasons, Lanier turned a corner with his jumper as an upperclassman to complement his solid size, frame and 6-foot-9 wingspan. He is not much of a ball handler and will need to use his tools better defensively, but he has a clear niche to fill with the way he can space the floor and shoot off screens.

Detroit could be a fun landing spot for Lanier. The Pistons look like an up-and-coming team after finishing with a 44-38 record last season and reaching the playoffs.

Lanier profiles as a shot-making role player in the NBA due to his defensive limitations and his inability to create his own shot on a consistent basis. Still, if the 6-foot-4 guard can prove to be a consistent threat from beyond-the-arc, he should be able to find some meaningful playing time in the NBA.
