The Florida Gators have had a fantastic 2025-26 season as the defending national champions. Last season, Florida finished the year on a 12-game winning streak, taking home the SEC Tournament title before making it through the NCAA Tournament, beating the Auburn Tigers in the Final Four and the Houston Cougars in the championship game.
This season, the Gators' style of play under head coach Todd Golden has looked much different. The three leading scorers from last year's team, Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin and Will Richard, all of whom are guards, left for the NBA.
Golden's squad has made a big change this season to combat those losses, leaning on the frontcourt to be the stars rather than the guards. One of Florida's big men who has stood out has been Rueben Chinyelu.
Chinyelu, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound junior center, has emerged as one of Florida's top players this season. In 30 games played, he has scored 11.3 points to go along with a nation-high 11.8 rebounds per contest. He's also been a force on the defensive end, blocking over one shot per game.
This is Chinyelu's second season with the Gators after he transferred from the Washington State Cougars, helping Florida claim a national title in 2025.
On Thursday, the Gators announced on the team's social media account that Chinyelu was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team.

Chinyelu was one of 16 players from the SEC to be honored by the conference for their work in the community. The Nigerian native has stayed connected with his hometown, collecting shoes to send to kids in Nigeria.
He and the No. 5 Gators (24-6, 15-2 SEC) will take on the Kentucky Wildcats (19-11, 10-7 SEC) in the regular season finale on Saturday at Rupp Arena. Tipoff at 4 p.m. ET will air on ESPN.
