Florida forward Keyontae Johnson enters transfer portal

Florida Gators men's basketball forward Keyontae Johnson entered the transfer portal on Sunday in hopes of resurrecting his college hoops career, ESPN reported.

Johnson, 22, has not practiced or played since collapsing on the court during a game in December 2020 due to a heart condition. He was considered one of the SEC's top basketball top players prior to the incident.

Johnson has not played since the 20-21 season when he collapsed mid game.

Johnson graduated from the University of Florida over the weekend, so it is likely he entered the transfer portal in order to get games in somewhere else to prove he is healthy.

According to ESPN, Johnson still needs medical clearance to participate in the NBA combine or to work out for NBA teams. Johnson has "a $5 million insurance policy that would pay out if he never plays again," ESPN said.

The Norfolk, Virginia native spent the last two seasons cheering for his teammates on the sidelines as he was still enrolled in school and still on a scholarship. He took to the court on Senior Night on March 5 and received the opening tipoff but did not play.
