Oregon transfer forward Mookie Cook committed to Chris Gerlufsen and the San Francisco Dons out of the transfer portal on Friday, according to Joe Tipton of On3.
Cook was a McDonald's All-American and consensus top 40 prospect in the 2023 class, choosing Dana Altman and the Ducks over Gonzaga, Kentucky, USC, and many others.
However, the Jefferson (OR) product had his promising career derailed by injuries, the first which occurred before his freshman season which limited him to just five games played in 2023-24.
The 6'7 wing returned to Eugene for his sophomore season and appeared in just 24 of the team's 35 games, struggling to break into the team's rotation, scoring 27 total points in 4.3 minutes per game.

It wasn't clear how much Gonzaga checked in on Cook after he entered the portal, if at all, but instead he will head to a Dons team that has been quite successful the last few seasons under coach Gerlufsen.
Cook could be in line for a big role right away at San Francisco, especially after the Dons lost star point guard Marcus Williams to graduation as well as guards Malik Thomas and Tyrone Riley IV who each entered the transfer portal.
Gerlufsen has a track record of success snagging seldom used transfers from high major schools, including the aforementioned Williams and Thomas who each had big seasons on the Hilltop after coming over previously from Texas A&M and USC, respectively.
Gonzaga will get to face their former recruiting target at least twice this upcoming season, and if history holds they could see him a third time in the WCC Tournament which has happened each of the past two seasons.
