After stepping away from basketball in September 2022, it appeared former Ohio State Buckeyes forward Seth Towns' career was over.

Not so fast.

Towns reportedly entered the transfer portal Monday and will open his recruitment, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello. The Columbus native hasn't played in a game since Ohio State's upset loss to Oral Roberts March 19, 2021, in the NCAA Tournament, as the majority of his career has been riddled by injuries.

Towns, who committed to the Harvard Crimson June 15, 2015, was the No. 125 prospect in the high school class of 2016, which featured other big-name prospects like Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, Phoenix Suns guard De'Aaron Fox and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

He became a household name in Cambridge, MA., averaging 14.2 points and 5.03 rebounds in 58 career games with the Crimson. He won Ivy League Player of the Year and earned AP All-America honorable mention honors in his sophomore season in 2017-18.

Towns scored 30 and 31 points in back-to-back games against Brown and Columbia, respectively, in 2018, proving his scoring-in-volume capabilities.

Towns missed two-consecutive seasons before transferring to Ohio State for 2020-21 — the only season he saw floor time in Columbus.

The 6-9, 230-pound forward came off the bench in 25 games during his graduate season, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11 minutes per game.

Towns proved crucial in the Buckeyes' 87-78 victory over Purdue during their 2021 Big Ten Tournament run, scoring five-straight points in the overtime period to help put the game out of reach. He finished with 11 points.

He missed all of the 2021-22 season recovering from back surgery before stepping away from basketball ahead of last season.

The 2023-24 season will be Towns' eighth in college basketball.

Towns is the third Buckeye to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining forward Eugene Brown III and guard Tanner Holden.
