Seth Towns has a new home on the hardwood for the 2023-24 basketball season.

Towns announced Friday that he would be transferring to Howard for his eighth and final collegiate season. Towns entered the transfer portal on May 15 and immediately began to field offers nationwide.

Towns' journey back to Columbus was filled with twists and turns. The 6-8 forward began his college career at Harvard in 2016, playing two seasons for the Crimson, averaging 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds and earning the 2017–18 Ivy League Player of the Year. During his time in Cambridge, Towns battled knee injuries, missing nearly the entirety of both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

Towns transferred back home in 2020 but only ended up playing 25 games for the Buckeyes. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per outing. He also averaged 10.8 minutes per game, helping Ohio State clinch a No. 2-seed in the NCAA tournament.

Injuries would once again derail Towns' playing career. He would miss all of the 2021-22 season with a back injury. Last September, Towns announced he was stepping away from the game due to the numerous injuries suffered during his career.

"It comes with sadness and faith that I must announce I am stepping away from Ohio State and Team 124 and that I will not be playing this season," Towns said. "After a few setbacks this summer and some tough conversations with my coaches and medical personnel, it has become clear that my body is not in a position to endure a full Big Ten season. I share with many of you the frustration of not having been able to compete at the level I am capable of, or at least something close to it."

Due to the COVID-19 eligibility waiver given out to all athletes in 2020, Towns qualified for one more year of playing time. The 26-year-old will now be one of the oldest players to suit up in a collegiate game in league history.

The Bison are coming off one of their better seasons, finishing with a 22–13 record while earning an NCAA tournament berth for the first time since 1992.
