Former UNLV Runnin’ Rebels leading-scoring guard Dedan Thomas, Jr has made the transfer official by announcing he has transferred to LSU.
Thomas, Jr will now be competing with the best of the best in the SEC.
Thomas is a former Freshman of the Year in the Mountain West Conference and in both seasons at UNLV, Thomas was named to the All-Mountain West Conference Team.
Thomas would have racked more season honors if not for a season-ending shoulder injury, which caused him to miss the last seven games of the regular season and the Mountain West Conference.
Once UNLV decided to fire former head coach Kevin Kruger, Thomas, Jr immediately entered the transfer portal.
With the Runnin’ Rebels then hiring Josh Pastner, the Runnin’ Rebel faithful held out hope that Thomas, Jr would change his mind and stay with the program.
Thomas, Jr’s father, Dedan Thomas, Sr, a former UNLV basketball player, has been very vocal during the transfer process recently.
Thomas, Sr voiced his thoughts, “We’re very happy for him.”
“He went down there and fell in love with the campus and coaching staff. This is a great move for him. It was a good time here, but he needs to go away and spread his wings and grow up and experience somewhere other than Las Vegas. This was his choice. We guided him a little bit, but he said, ‘This is what I want to do … We wish UNLV and (new Rebels coach Josh Pastner) and everyone there the best,” Thomas, Sr said.
