Georgetown’s McClung to transfer after withdrawing from draft

Georgetown star Mac McClung won’t be entering the NBA Draft — but he isn’t returning to Georgetown, either.

McClung announced Wednesday he planned to transfer from Georgetown. The 6-foot-2 guard said he has already completed the paperwork to enter the transfer portal and will be seeking a waiver to play his junior season immediately.

“It was a number of different events that made me feel I had no choice but to transfer from Georgetown,” McClung told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. “I really wanted to stay, but things throughout my career made me realize that I couldn’t.

“I’m looking for a place I can call home. A place I can be a part of a family and help them succeed.”

McClung immediately becomes the hottest property in the transfer portal. He was averaging 15.7 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game before a foot injury essentially ended his sophomore season at the start of February.

However, there appeared to be a clear disconnect between McClung and Georgetown. Hoyas coach Patrick Ewing said on May 5 that McClung would return for his junior season. That statement blindsided McClung, according to his agent, Daniel Hazan.

McClung’s highlight reel plays made him a Youtube sensation before he even made it to college. Expect numerous top programs to pursue him as he looks for his next destination.
