In the ever-spinning carousel of college basketball’s transfer portal, Georgia Tech may have found a stabilizing piece. Former Boston College guard Chas Kelley III announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets, bringing experience, grit, and a much-needed boost to the Tech backcourt.
The signing couldn’t come at a more pivotal moment for head coach Damon Stoudamire, who’s navigating a reshaping of his roster after losing both Naithan George and Lance Terry. Kelley, a 6-foot-3 Houston native and former three-star recruit, appeared in 88 games over three seasons at Boston College, including 22 starts. He averaged 3.7 points, 1.6 assists, and 16.4 minutes per game during his Eagles tenure.
“This community has shaped me in ways I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life,” Kelley wrote in his farewell message to BC fans. “Though the journey here is ending, I know He’s guiding me to where I’m meant to be next.”

Kelley’s 2024-25 campaign was his most productive yet—averaging 4.4 points and 2.0 assists in a career-high 18.8 minutes per game. While not flashy on paper, the stat line reflects his growth and adaptability—traits Stoudamire is banking on as Tech aims to build on last season’s 17-17 finish, which included a .500 ACC record and postseason NIT appearance.
Kelley joins a crowded yet promising backcourt rotation featuring Kam Craft, Lamar Washington, and Kowacie Reeves Jr. With just one year of eligibility remaining, he enters the program with the mindset of a veteran ready to contribute.
“Let’s do it,” Kelley said in his commitment post on Instagram.
Tech fans can expect Kelley to compete immediately for meaningful minutes as the Yellow Jackets pursue consistency in a fiercely competitive ACC. If he delivers, Kelley’s steady hand and experience could be the missing link in Tech’s backcourt puzzle.
Stoudamire’s challenge is to mold a balanced rotation that can push Georgia Tech from mid-pack ACC competitor to legitimate postseason threat. Kelley’s arrival is the first step in that mission.
