Georgia Tech loses multiple players to transfer portal

The transfer portal is open with a ton of activity during this cycle. There are over 1,000 players hoping to land better situations in the coming weeks. Georgia Tech is no exception.

The Yellow Jackets were bounced in the opening round of the NIT, leading to a mass exodus of talent. This will be a significant offseason for Damon Stoudamire and his staff to fill the roster. GT isn't in rebuild mode but will need to incorporate a pair of top-tier four-star players from the 2025 recruiting class.

Guard Akai Fleming from Atlanta's Overtime Elite and Center Mouhamed Sylla from Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale, Arizona) will be a key part of the Jackets future success. Both could be in a one-and-done before the NBA. Georgia Tech basketball has the 23rd-best recruiting class in 2025, according to 247Sports.

For the recruiting gains, the Yellow Jackets have lost four players to the transfer portal. GT forward Ibrahim Souare, center Doryan Onwuchekwa, point guard Nait George and forward Duncan Powell will be elsewhere next season.

Powell averaged 12.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He connected on 44.1% of his field goals, while drilling 35.8% of his three-point attempts. He was a role player off the bench and started the final 11 games of last season due to injuries. The 6-foot-8, 240 pounder transferred from Sacramento State before the start of last season. He'll hit the portal again looking for a new opportunity.
