Gonzaga Contacts Elite Three Point Shooting Guard in Transfer Portal

The Gonzaga Bulldogs will be extremely active in the transfer portal this offseason after losing four senior starters - Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, Khalif Battle, and Ben Gregg - as well as three reserves to the transfer portal in Dusty Stromer, Michael Ajayi, and Jun Seok Yeo.

Mark Few and his staff have already been actively pursuing some of the biggest names in the portal, including Iowa big man Owen Freeman and New Mexico guard Donovan Dent, while also going after superstars from the mid-major level - like Treysen Eaglestaff from North Dakota.

Fans can add James Madison guard Bryce Lindsay to that list as well after Sam Kayser of 24/7 High School Hoops reported Gonzaga is among the many schools who have contacted Lindsay, the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.

Other schools in contact with the 6'3 guard from Baltimore include Florida, UConn, Maryland, Creighton, Clemson, Texas, and Ole Miss, among many others.

It's not hard to see why, as Lindsay was a four-star recruit out of high school who initially committed to South Carolina before ultimately deciding to go to Texas A&M in 2023-24, appearing in eight games before opting to take a redshirt year and hitting the transfer portal.

Lindsay then landed at James Madison under new coach Preston Spradlin, where he averaged 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 31 games, starting 13 and playing just under 30 minutes per night. Lindsey was an elite three point specialist, shooting 40.8% from three on a whopping 6.9 attempts per game.

All that resulted in Lindsay being named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year, while his three point percentage led the league and his true shooting percentage of 61.5% was third.

There is arguably nothing Gonzaga needs more next year than three point shooting, having lost at least their top five three point shooters from last year - with Nembhard, Hickman, Battle, Stromer, Gregg, Ajayi, and Yeo combining to make 230 of Gonzaga's 263 three pointers last year, or about 87.4%.

Colgate transfer guard Braeden Smith has 87 career made threes, but neither Jalen Warley or Emmanuel Innocenti figure to be big time outside shooters next season.

The return of Steele Venters after two injury-riddled seasons would certainly help, but it is no surprise to see the staff looking hard at anyone who could join this program and knock down outside shots for a Gonzaga team that is coming off its worst three point shooting season, by percentage, in the last 25 years.
