USC Trojans men's basketball are positioned to potentially deliver a major recruiting coup. This one involves a high-profile March Madness guard who entered the transfer portal.
College basketball insider for 247Sports Brad Crawford isn't ruling out North Carolina shooting guard Ian Jackson choosing USC. Crawford mentioned the Trojans fit on Monday -- the day the UNC star declared his entry into the portal.
Why would Jackson trek west after experiencing the Atlantic Coast Conference? And by leaving a historic college basketball program featuring multiple national title banners? Crawford revealed Jackson developed a previous strong connection with USC head coach Eric Musselman.
"Arkansas finished second to UNC during Jackson's original recruitment when now-USC coach Eric Musselman was leading the Razorbacks, so you better believe they'll be in contact," Crawford wrote.
Musselman made a strong dash at Jackson over a year ago, all before UNC won him over.
"Jackson, who hails from The Bronx (N.Y.) was a coveted player in the 2024 cycle that Musselman tried his best to get," Crawford said.
The 6-foot-4 guard should have zero trouble adjusting to Musselman's pace and style offensive approach.
"USC's offensive scheme is ideal for his floor game and willingness to run in transition," Crawford said. "Whether or not he's willing to move to the opposite coast remains to be seen."
Jackson, though, shared in a Jan. 2023 interview with Dushawn London of 247Sports that he and Musselman "have a great relationship" and how the former Arkansas head coach reached out to him everyday.
The now past Tar Heels guard is fresh off averaging 11.9 points per game for the First Four qualifier. UNC trounced San Diego State to open the 2025 NCAA Tournament. But fell to Ole Miss in the field of 64 round.
The former No. 2 ranked prospect from New York will attract multiple power conference programs. But USC looks like a contender to land Jackson too.
