Hot-shooting No. 2 Texas dismantles Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Christian Bishop had 16 points and nine rebounds, both season highs, and Brock Cunningham added a career-best 13 points as No. 2 Texas swamped visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff 88-43 on Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns (7-1) led by 16 at halftime and 69-41 after a dunk off the break by Dylan Mitchell with eight minutes to play.

Texas continued to expand its advantage through the finish while shooting 59.7 percent from the floor, amassing a season-high 23 assists and forcing 22 turnovers in an empathic bounce-back performance after its only loss of the season.

Mitchell added 13 points for Texas as 10 of the 12 players who took the court scored at least four points. The Longhorns earned a 52-18 edge in points in the paint and a 49-8 advantage in bench scoring.

Chris Greene led the Golden Lions (3-8) with 14 points while Kylen Milton added 13. Arkansas-Pine Bluff shot 33.3 percent from the field and just 19.2 percent after halftime.

There were 10 lead changes over the first seven and a half minutes before Texas went ahead for good on a layup by Cunningham at the 12:33 mark. The Golden Lions got back to within 25-24 after a three-point play by Milton with 8:42 remaining before the Longhorns forged a 16-2 run to take charge. Texas led 46-30 at the break.

Bishop scored 12 points by halftime to lead the Longhorns while Cunningham added 11 on a 4-for-4 showing from the floor. Texas outshot the Golden Lions 56.3 percent to 48 percent in the half and forced 11 turnovers that it converted into 13 points.

Greene paced Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 12 points in the half.
