Houston’s Kelvin Sampson on WVU: ‘Most Snakebit Team in America’

Sampson went on to compliment RaeQuan Battle, for his gifted talent; Kerr Kriisa, for his Power-5 basketball experience; and Noah Farrakhan, for how quickly he adjusted to returning to the floor with short notice.

“[Battle] is talented. God gifted him with great talent,” Sampson said. “He’s a good shooter. He’s a good scorer. A lot of good scorers aren’t good shooters and a lot of good shooters aren’t good scorers. He can do both. He plays on a team where he’s allowed to be a volume shooter so because of that he’s going to put up big numbers.”

“They’ve got a high-level backcourt. You can only really scout them from their last three or four games because they just got all of their kids back. Like I said, they’ve been snakebit,” Sampson added.

Many coaches this season have talked about how unique it is to scout and prepare for West Virginia this season. The Mountaineers have yet to play their entire team together as many pieces have been moving in and out of the rotation. Sampson currently has Houston at 13-0, sitting as the third-best team in the country.

West Virginia and No. 3 Houston will open up Big 12 play in Houston, Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Fertitta Center.
