Illinois Basketball Signee Wins Gatorade Player of the Year

Morez Johnson Jr is the crown jewel of a very impressive 2024 basketball recruiting class for Illinois Basketball. Johnson Jr is joined by Jase Butler and Jason Jakstys, who both have had solid senior seasons. Unfortunately, Morez and his team fell short in the IHSA State tournament, but that does not take away from the incredible senior season that Morez has. Johnson Jr is an emphatic double-double machine and that should hopefully continue when he enters Illinois Basketball’s program.

Morez Johnson Jr won the 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year. The Illinois Basketball signee earned this award averaging 17.2 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.4 blocks, and 2.5 steals per game.

The projected fit in Champaign.

Illinois Basketball will not have Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Shannon to start the 2024 season. Without a doubt, Morez Johnson will be one of the focal points on the team that starts the 2024 season. In the first year of what will be a newer era for Illinois Basketball, Johnson projects as one of the most talented prospects on the team. If Ty Rodgers, Sencire Harris, and Luke Goode all chose to return, Johnson will be a strong compliment to those veteran players.
