Indiana Reaches Out to Stanford Transfer Kanaan Carlyle

Stanford transfer Kanaan Carlyle joins the long list of players Indiana has been in contact with since the transfer portal opened Monday. Carlyle has heard from Gonzaga, Georgia, Baylor and Indiana, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com.

Carlyle is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard who was an honorable mention on the Pac-12 All-Freshman team in 2023-24. He averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.6% from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 77.6% at the free throw line.

As a freshman, Carlyle played 23 games and made 16 starts, averaging 25.7 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 31 points against Washington State and 28 points against Arizona, and both performances occurred less than 10 games into his college career.

Carlyle is now looking for a new school after Stanford went 14-18 and fired coach Jerod Haase after eight seasons.

Out of Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Ga., Carlyle was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023. He was ranked No. 52 in the nation and No. 6 among shooting guards, receiving offers from some of the sport's top programs.

Indiana lost senior point guard Xavier Johnson following the season, which makes the guard position an area of need heading into the 2024-25 season. Indiana coach Mike Woodson has experience recruiting players out of Atlanta, as he landed Jakai Newton and Kaleb Banks in the last two classes. With no high school commitments in the class of 2024 and at least two players leaving – Johnson and Anthony Walker – Woodson will have to fill out the rest of the roster with transfers.
