West Virginia has made a lot of progress in recent weeks, filling out its roster for the 2024-25 season, and could be set to gain another commitment in the coming days.
UTSA guard transfer Marcus "Smurf" Millender is fresh off a visit to Morgantown and will be looking to shut down his recruitment in the near future.
Since entering the transfer portal, Millender has heard from the likes of Florida State, Georgia, Kansas State, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UNLV, VCU, Virginia Tech, and Wichita State, among others.
The 5'11", 180-pounder from Houston, Texas, has put up some ridiculously good shooting numbers in his first two years of college ball, ranking in the top 10 of three-point percentage this past season.
As a freshman at South Alabama, Smurf split time as a starter and bench piece and averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. Yes, he shot the ball slightly better from range than he did from within the three-point line.
In his lone season with the Roadrunners, Millender saw his scoring production increase to 14.9 per game, with his shooting splits mirroring what he posted at USA. He did, however, get significantly better at the charity stripe, going from a 77% shooter to 87%.
The Mountaineers already have a strong backcourt duo, which consists of Honor Huff and Treysen Eaglestaff, but landing Millender would give Ross Hodge a quality option off the bench - something WVU lacked this past season under Darian DeVries.
Millender has two years of eligibility remaining.

New Third Base Trade Options For Yankees Emerge
The Rolling Stones knew what they were talking about while belting out "You Can't Always Get What You Want." It's very possible New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will find himself humming that tune ahead of the July 31 MLB trade deadline. The Yankees, like several contenders, are shopping for a power-hitting third baseman. Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star slugger Eugenio Suarez sits atop everyone's list. Running a distant second and third are Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon and Pittsburgh Pirates Gold Glover Ke'Bryan Hayes. After that, it could be slim pickings. Should Cashman find himself scrambling to make a deal, here are a couple of new names entering the conversation. "Amed Rosario would be a good fit for Yankees," the New York Post's Jon Heyman reported Monday. "Played a lot of 3B this year. .802 lifetime OPS vs. lefties (.845 this year). Suarez is top target but many would qualify as upgrades." Rosario is hitting .271 with five home runs and 18 RBIs this season for the Washington Nationals. But the nine-year veteran has big-market experience, making his MLB debut with the New York Mets in 2017. The 29-year-old is making $2 million this season and will be a free agent after the World Series, according to Spotrac. But wait, there's more. "Other possible third-base trade targets include Royals All-Star Maikel Garcia — in theory, Kansas City would have interest in one of the Yankees’ outfielders to play left field for them," The Athletic's Jim Bowden reported Monday. Garcia, who made the American League roster for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, is hitting .291 this season with eight home runs and 41 RBIs. The 25-year-old is in his fourth big-league season and is making almost $775,000 this season, according to Spotrac. Garcia still has four years of arbitration eligibility remaining, so he won't come cheap. Packers’ Starter Could Be Shocking Roster Cut Later This Summer
The Green Bay Packers have revamped the wide receiving corps over the offseason. In addition to selecting Matthew Golden in the first round of April’s NFL Draft, and rounding back to add Savion Williams in the third round, the Packers also inked veteran Mecole Hardman as a free agent, further bolstering Jordan Love’s supporting cast, creating competition and in all likelihood adding special teams value. Suddenly, the Packers’ crowded wide receiver room could be one of the hottest competitions for snaps and roster spots in the league. Could the Packers Move on From Christian Watson? Christian Watson is still recovering from a torn ACL, but not everyone believes he’s a lock to even make the Packers’ roster out of training camp. Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante suggests Watson could be cut, or traded, at some point this summer. “Watson doesn’t have the special-teams value that Mecole Hardman,” Infante writes of Watson. “Bo Melton, and Malik Heath all have. Both Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks have done a better job of staying healthy, and Jayden Reed and the two rookies are locks to make the team. That could leave Watson as a realistic cut candidate since he is sidelined with a torn ACL.” Moving on from Watson would be a pretty big surprise, for the Packers, but not out of the realm of possibility. Through his first three seasons, Watson has caught 96 passes for 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns, and if healthy, would likely begin this season at or near the top of the depth chart. He simply isn’t healthy and doesn’t contribute much on special teams. The Packers have established a youth movement and have certainly created competition at the position, and if Green Bay believes that the likes of Wicks, Reed, and Melton are more valuable than Watson, it could lead to some difficult conversations and decisions in the weeks ahead about the 26-year-old’s future.
Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski continues to set radar gun on fire at unprecedented rate
Milwaukee Brewers Jacob Misiorowski was back on the mound on Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners, and even though he pitched just 3.2 innings, he continued to show why he is one of baseball's most exciting young talents. Prior to be pulled after 64 pitches, he allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out seven to continue his stunning start to his big league career. He also continued to light up the radar gun in a way that no other pitcher in the modern era has. Following Tuesday's start, where he regularly clocked in at over 101 mph, he has now thrown 39 pitches this season that have eclipsed 101 mph on the radar gun. He has done that in just 29.1 innings over six starts. By comparison, every other starting pitcher in Major League Baseball has tallied just 17 pitches of 101 mph or higher — combined. But it's not just about how he stacks up with pitchers this season that is staggering. It's that he is near the top of the list for 101 mph pitches for a career. Here are two of his 101 mph heaters from Tuesday. The ball just erupts out of his hand at the hitters. When you add in his mid-90s change-up and high-90s breaking pitches he is already one of the nastiest pitchers in the majors. It is that sort of electric stuff that made him a National League All-Star after just five appearances. For the season, he has now struck out 40 batters in 29.1 innings of work (that is 12.27 per nine innings), allowed only 15 hits and just eight earned runs. And five of those earned runs against came in only one start. Given his age and with the way teams today are extremely protective of their pitchers, he is probably going to see his pitch counts and innings closely monitored this season. When he is on the mound, though, he is quickly becoming appointment viewing.
Chicago Blackhawks reportedly set to trade 25-year-old goaltender to Stars rival, Edmonton Oilers
The Chicago Blackhawks, a crowded goaltending situation and trade rumors involving the Edmonton Oilers have fans wondering if the Stars' rivals could soon upgrade their crease before training camp. With training camp approaching, Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson has five goalies under contract, including Spencer Knight, Arvid Soderblom, Drew Commesso, newly signed Stanislav Berezhnoy, and veteran Laurent Brossoit. Only two NHL roster spots are available, which has fueled speculation that Brossoit could be moved to a contender, with Edmonton emerging as a leading candidate. For Stars fans, seeing the Oilers potentially bolster their crease should raise eyebrows. Edmonton, fresh off a deep playoff run, is looking to avoid the same issues that hurt them late in the postseason. Drafted by Calgary in 2011, he's appeared in 140 NHL games, including time with Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vegas, where he helped the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup in 2023. While Chicago decides, Drew Commesso continues to push for NHL time after posting a .911 save percentage over 39 AHL games. I think if Edmonton lands Brossoit or even Commesso, Dallas may have to plan around a deeper Oilers team come playoff time, especially given how tight the Western race looks on paper.
