Johnny Davis provides everything an NBA franchise wants

Johnny Davis is getting drafted Thursday night. It is not a matter of if, but when. Will he crack the top 10? Will he sit back in the late lottery? I do not think he will fall out of the lottery either. Davis is still a young player and has just started to hit his ceiling. He is a quiet player who lets his play do the talking. Here is why whoever drafts Johnny Davis is getting everything they want in a player.

He’s A Quiet Leader

Johnny was asked to be the leader of the Wisconsin Badgers this past season. It was a tough ask because as a freshman, there were seven seniors. He was able to sit back and learn while playing decent minutes off the bench.

Anyone who has been asked to be a leader on a team knows it is hard to step in right away and lead a young roster when they weren’t asked to do it previously. Johnny had to learn fast how to be a leader as an underclassman. This is really tough to do at the college level.

Not only did he do it, but he was exceptional at it. The Badgers went as far as Johnny took them. His last game clutch shots and his relentless attack at the rim was contagious. The effort, energy, and leadership was clear and his teammates at Wisconsin responded.

He’s A Team First Player

Wisconsin is one of the few programs that does not have an offense that tailors to a star player. They also do not get a lot of star players. Just ask Frank Kaminsky who was not a well known player coming out of high school. Sam Dekker was a stud coming out of high school, but he wasn’t the focal point of the offense during his tenure.

Wisconsin always preaches a team offense and not just a single player. Yes, Johnny Davis was asked to shoot a ton and the scouting report was based on him. However, when he was not on his A game, he found other ways to get involved. He could pass, rebound, and also defend. He is a great player on both sides of the ball and that’s rare in today’s game.

Young Player Just Hitting The Ceiling

I believe Johnny Davis is just stating to hit his ceiling as a player. We knew coming out of La Crosse Central what player he could be. However, I do not think anyone knew he was would be an impact player this early. He quickly established himself as one of the best players in the country.

Whoever drafts Johnny Davis this week is getting a player who is still learning and wants to learn. He wants to be the best. He is a young player who will only continue to get better. I can’t wait to see Johnny Davis have a long and successful NBA career. That begins Thursday night.
